Israel Hospital: free checkups for World Osteoporosis Day

On the occasion of World Osteoporosis Day, scheduled for Oct. 20, Israelitic Hospital is joining the seventh edition of the (H)Open Day promoted by Fondazione Onda, National Observatory on Women’s and Gender Health. The hospital network, which has already been awarded two Pink Stamps for its care and attention to gender medicine, will dedicate the day of Thursday, October 20, 2022, to bone health, with free talks and outpatient examinations, questionnaires and dissemination of information material on the treatment and prevention of this disease.

Osteoporosis is a disease that affects the entire skeleton

It is distinguished by the silent deterioration of bone architecture and is characterized by the slow reduction of its mineral mass. This inevitably leads to bone fragility and a consequent increased risk of fractures. Today, thanks to advances in technology, osteoporosis can be easily diagnosed through instrumental tests that measure bone mineral density, and most importantly, it can be prevented.

Therefore, thanks to the support of the team of geriatricians, led by Dr. Stefano Ronzoni, Head of the UOC of Geriatrics at the Israel Hospital, and the innovative technologies in place at the Jewish Hospital, it will be possible to assess the risk of fracture using the DEFRA CALC algorithm and analyze the patient&#8217s muscle strength. In addition, the SARC-F questionnaire, useful for the assessment of sarcopenia, will be administered.
